The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released its Guidelines for Conducting Practical Examinations with the Supplementary Examination, 2025. These guidelines provide necessary procedures for conducting practical examinations during the Supplementary Exam 2025 for both Class 10 and Class 12 students. If you're a student, parent, or educator, here's a clear and concise breakdown of the key points to help you prepare.
Who Needs to Appear for Practical Exams?
For Class XII Students
CBSE has defined two specific categories of students who may need to appear for practicals:
- Repeat in Practical (RP):
- This means the student failed or was absent only in the practical.
- Must appear only in the practical exam during the supplementary exam.
- Their previous theory marks will be carried forward.
- Repeat in Both (RB):
- The student failed in both theory and practical in a subject.
- Must appear in both theory and practical during the supplementary exams.
For Class X Students
For Class X students in the Compartment category, no separate practical exams or Internal Assessment will be conducted during the supplementary period. Instead:
- If you were absent for the Internal Assessment during the regular exam, you will be awarded pro-rata marks for the Internal Assessment. These marks are calculated proportionally based on your theory marks in the supplementary exam.
- This is because Internal Assessment is a year-long process, and CBSE does not conduct additional assessments during the supplementary exams.
What Are Pro Rata Marks?
“Pro rata” means in proportion.
CBSE will calculate your internal assessment marks based on how you perform in the theory exam.
Example: Let’s say internal assessment is out of 20 marks, and the theory paper is out of 80 marks.
If a student scores 60 out of 80 in the supplementary theory exam, that is:
(60 ÷ 80) × 100 = 75%
So, CBSE will give 75% of 20 marks as internal marks:
(75 ÷ 100) × 20 = 15 marks
So, the student will get 15 marks out of 20 in internal assessment automatically.
